Absolute Beginners

COMING 3/18/2015

Professor Stephen Worthington’s life makes perfect sense.

He teaches classes on Tuesdays and Fridays. He has dinners with his parents on the weekend. He goes to the gym with his comically crass stepbrother, Matt, a few days each week. And every night, he heads home at a reasonable hour, alone.

There’s only one thorn in Stephen’s perfectly organized side: Ms. Julia Wilde. Never has Stephen dealt with a more unruly student. She’s rude, provocative, infuriating—and she dresses in a way that is completely unbecoming for a lady. Stephen can’t wait for the semester to be over, and then he’ll never have to see her again.

That is, until Stephen finds himself out of the classroom and in Julia’s bed. Suddenly, the student/teacher roles are reversed, and the professor receives a much-needed lesson between the sheets. Stephen thought his life made sense, but after his tryst with Julia, he finds himself changed in more ways than one. Maybe he’s coming down with something.

Or maybe, something a little out of the ordinary is exactly what this stuffy professor needs.

 Author Interview:

please tell us a little bit about your current projects?

Thank you for having me. I’m publishing my first novel “Absolute Beginners” on March 18, and I’m very excited about it. I’ve been working on this story for five years and being able to finally share it with my readers is beyond amazing.

When was the moment that you knew you had to be a writer?

It was probably when I realized that the first thing I would do after having sent my family off in the morning, was to turn on my computer and start writing. No breakfast, no changing out of my pajamas. Just writing. And I was beyond happy.

Who gave you the one piece of writing advice that sticks with you to this day?

My good friend, Melanie Moreland, who is also an author, gave me the very good advice that I can’t please everyone. I should write for myself, not the audience.

What are some of your favorite pastimes? Do you have any hobbies or collections?

I don’t have much free time outside of work and taking care of my kids. At the end of the day, I’m usually dead on my feet, and watching Netflix with a cup of tea is about all I can muster. I used to love horseback riding, and that’s something I’d like to get back to one day, when I have more time on my hands.

What has been your biggest adventure to date?

In general, I’d say having my children, is the thing that has changed me the most. The things I once cared about seem silly and frivolous now that I have these two amazing and special little people in my life. If I’m going for a single event, I would have to say going to a fanfiction meetup in Nashville last summer. I’ve been a part of the Twilight fandom for years and finally being able to meet these amazing women in real life was a fantastic experience!

When it comes to food, are you the adventurous type who will try anything once, or do you prefer to stick to tried and true foods and recipes?

I cook everything myself, so I usually stick with the recipes I know everyone will like. When I’m travelling, though, I love trying the local cuisine.

How do you describe yourself? How would your family and friends describe you?

I’m probably a bit introverted but you wouldn’t think it if you knew me. I’m fairly awkward in social situations so I tend to overcompensate for my shyness and end up acting like I’m super outgoing, which really isn’t true at all.

What is your favorite comfort food?

Cake. I’m a dessert person, all the way. A cup of coffee or tea with a piece of cake, and I’m thoroughly comforted.

What is your favorite season? What do you love about it?

Spring. Winter is very dark in my part of the world, and we only have a few hours of daylight. So I always welcome back the sun.

What is the one modern convenience that you cannot do without?

The internet. My friends are there.

What project are you working on next?

The second part to my series, Absolute Lovers, is coming out on June 24th, so I’m working with my editor on that one at the moment.

Any place we can find you in person or on the net this month or next?

I live on Facebook. Seriously. There was this app or something that would calculate how much time you spend on Facebook every day. I didn’t take it. The result would have been too scary!
