Deidre Knight stopped by RJ after hours

When I was eighteen, I traveled with my family to Yellowstone National Park. Now you have to keep in mind that my father loved nothing more than getting behind the wheel of our camper and driving us across vast expanses of space. Little unpaved roads alongside canyons. National monuments like Mount Rushmore. We went to a lot of places during my youth. But despite having seen all of that, when I first visited Yellowstone, it was the most awe-inspiring experience of my life to date.

I saw a baby moose being nudged onto its wobbly legs by its mother for the first time. There were the mud pots and geysers. This was before the great Yellowstone fire of 1988, so it was green and lush and pure. I wore shorts, and as we climbed to higher altitude stood in an inch of snow! Recently I learned it’s the last complete ecosystem in all of North America; no wonder my young mind was blown.

So when I started my Midnight Warrior series and was trying to figure out where to set it, you’d better believe I couldn’t resist using Yellowstone. The lucky part for me was that I needed to do research—lots and lots of research. I mean, a girl’s got to feel the landscape right? LOL! I’ve been really blessed to head out to Wyoming on three separate trips since selling these books to NAL. I thought it would be fun to share some of my favorite pictures with you. So let’s start the grand tour, shall we?

First of all, there’s the snow—and for someone who grew up in Georgia, we are talking loads of snow (and cute ski bums too!)

And then there’s the sweeping vistas—talk about a view from a van.

But you can’t really hang out in Jackson without
going where Marco, Scott and Thea did in PARALLEL HEAT—
remember the bar with the pool tables?

Now, one thing to realize is that Jackson Hole is at a serious elevation. Each time it’s taken me at least a day to really be able to breathe. Why, then, did I decide it was a good idea to try to ski on my first day there? I never fell, but I couldn’t stop sweating and wanting copious amounts of water.

Look! It’s my very own ski bum!

But the best part, by far (at least to me) is the *snowmobiling*! This is me with my sister and agent, Pamela Harty. We really aren’t killer ninjas. (Well, maybe we are alien assassins! Could be!)

This is a pic of me with my dear friend Angela Zoltners.
