The feud between the Gallaghers and the Brennans has been going on for over a hundred years and headstrong Betsy Gallagher is tired of the whole thing. It is even interfering with her favorite holiday. There will be no Christmas program at the church this year due to the feud. To make matters worse, Betsy’s cousin Angela, a new mother-to-be, is desperate for her baby boy to play the part of baby Jesus in the program. So she has enlisted Betsy to make this a reality by coming up with a way for the program to proceed as usual. How Betsy is to accomplish this feat, she has no idea.
Still, Betsy cannot help being a bit envious of her cousin. Angela has everything that Betsy desires – her own home, a child on the way and a man who loves her to distraction. Betsy has been pegged by her grandmother to be the next one to take over the ranch, but as much as Betsy loves the ranch, she wants a life of her own away from the feud even more. Unfortunately, the only eligible men in their small town are either related to her, or they are Brennans and if Betsy were to become involved with one of them, her grandmother would skin her alive. Although Betsy cannot deny her longtime crush on Declan Brennan.
Declan knows better than to play cards with the Gallaghers, but he can’t back down when Betsy’s cousin makes him a bet to prove that Declan isn’t the ladies’ man he thinks he is. With one thousand dollars on the line, Declan makes a bet that he can successfully woo the next woman who walks into the bar. Unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately, the next woman is Betsy. Declan has had feelings for her for a long time, but she, being a Gallagher, is off limits. The one good thing about the bet is that it has given him an out; he can flirt with Betsy without any repercussions from the other Gallaghers. Once he wins, the thousand dollars will offset his losses for the night. There is one stipulation; the bet must be kept secret from Betsy, not only for Declan’s sake but also to save her cousin’s hide when she finds out.
Running into Declan accidentally, Betsy gets into a conversation with him and soon discovers that he feels the same way about the feud. Enlisting his help in getting the Christmas program up and running by secretly asking residents for contributions of any Christmas related articles that can be used in the program, the two are soon meeting clandestinely. The more time Declan spends with Betsy, the more he wants to make her his permanently, not just to win a bet, even if he has to cough up the thousand dollars himself to call it off, not even minding that he will lose. But if Betsy finds out what triggered their courtship, will he lose the woman he loves, or will he be granted a real Christmas miracle by settling the feud so he can marry the Gallagher who holds his heart?
A COWBOY CHRISTMAS MIRACLE, the fourth and final novel in New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Carolyn Brown’s BURNT BOOT, TEXAS series, is a fun, sexy contemporary romance that will leave you sighing. The chemistry between Declan and Betsy is red hot, and their love for each other is undeniable. The interaction between Declan and Betsy and their attempts to keep their meetings secret will keep you engrossed in the story and rooting for them. Betsy is a gorgeous redhead with a temper to match. She is also a crack shot and not one to take being duped lying down. So if she discovers what is going on with the men in her life, they had better run for the hills because someone will pay.
I am a huge fan of Ms. Brown’s western, small town novels and cannot get enough of them. The warm-hearted characters, humor, small town dynamics, romance, love and even the one-upmanship of the feud makes this series unforgettable. Containing humor, heat and heaps of sass and spunk, this novel is one you do not want to miss!
