Our Review

Finding a pair of red panties in her husband’s briefcase, Carlene Lovell knew immediately who they belonged to. As part owner of a local lingerie shop, Carlene had designed the underwear and sold them to the bimbo who cooed about getting ready to go away on a trip with her Sugar Daddy. At the time, Carlene did not know that the Sugar Daddy was her husband Lenny, a local car salesman who works for his uncle. Packing her bags, Carlene moves into the rooms above her shop, determined to divorce the cheating louse. She barely has time to process the situation before the gossip quickly spreads and her shop is bombarded with the curious women around town. It does not take long before she comes up with the perfect revenge. Lenny’s one claim to fame is that he won the Chili Cook-off for the past five years. He promises his girlfriend that when he wins this year he will put her picture above the mantel holding his trophies. So, Carlene, her two cousins and their mamas set out to win this year’s event and hit Lenny where it hurts the most.

A plus size woman, Carlene doesn’t realize how beautiful she is, but a certain police officer has noticed and he wants Carlene for his own. Police Chief Jack Landry has longed for Carlene for a long time, so he is not about to let this opportunity slip through his fingers. Will she give him the chance to prove that not all men are like her cheating ex?

Absolutely hilarious, A HEAP OF TEXAS TROUBLE, which was originally published as THE RED-HOT CHILI COOK-OFF, is the second book in bestselling author Carolyn Brown’s CADILLAC, TEXAS series. This outrageously funny, yet sexy, contemporary romance is a must read! I love the name of Carlene’s lingerie, Bless My Bloomers, which she runs with her two cousins, Alma Grace, who believes prayer solves everything and Patrice, who is practical and plain spoken. Their mamas are a bit quirky, but they are a very close group. Together, the six women have each other’s backs and are there for Carlene when she needs them. I loved these women and the town of Cadillac, Texas, and found myself laughing out loud more than once at some of their antics. The men in their lives are perfectly suited to them. Family connections are a strong point in this story.

This novel can be read as a standalone, but I was unable to stop at just one and ended up also reading the other two books in this collection, THE BLUE RIBBON JALAPENO SOCIETY and THE YELLOW ROSE BEAUTY SHOP. I only wish there were more stories in the collection. A must read! Loaded with sass, spunk, sizzle and plenty of giggles, A HEAP OF TEXAS TROUBLE is one book you don’t want to miss! Definitely a recommended read!
