L.G. Burbank is a pseudonym for Leslie Burbank who has been writing dark fiction for publication for the past six years, prior to that the author was writing romance. The author's first series, The Lords of Darkness is being published by Medallion Press. Volume One: The Soulless and Volume Two: The Ruthless are currently available.

Mordred Soulis, the Chosen One, has awakened from his healing slumber and must now continue his mission to save mankind. It is time to journey to the land of ice and snow, to the place where earth and heaven meet. It is time to enlist the aid of the second of the Vampyre kings, the mighty Lir. It takes all the strength of Mordred's tortured soul to convince Lir to aid him on his quest to save humanity. For the blood of all Norse flows through Lir's steely veins, including that of Odin's battle maidens, the Valkyries.

Together at last, the two sail across dangerous seas, discovering a new continent where Mordred seeks what he needs to defeat his nemesis, Vlad. The task is daunting. Plagued by the most wicked of temptations, Mordred finally gives in to weakness and finds himself a victim of the Spanish Inquisition. Once again, he is forced to reconcile the evil men do with that of his creator. Once again, he must question his own existence, and the once clear vision of his quest blurs and wavers.

And always, as time ticks slowly by, the destruction of mortals grows ever nearer.

I am always asked why vampires... First, I spell vampire, the old Eastern European way, vampyre. I've been told I'm incorrect in my spelling, but trust me, I can find references to vampyre, wampyre and a host of other spellings through research.

I chose to create a vampyre character because I knew this was a persona most people could identify with. It is still a popular theme and people think of vampyres as inherently evil. But what if vampyres were created as just another predator? No different than a fox or a lion? What if vampyres were put here to control the human species?

I have a biology background and have long studied the survival of the fittest concept as it plays out in the natural world, and when left alone, nature has its own devices to care for issues like over population, disease, etc. Nature, without man, could survive. Man, without nature, could not.

And then there is the spiritual side of man and how that effects how humans behave. I wanted to delve into myths and legends and gods and goddesses and see how perceptions from hundreds and thousands of years ago, are still in place today. What is evil? Can you tell merely by looking at someone? What if everything you had been told about evil, was wrong? Do you have the power within you to change for better or worse?

"Ms. Burbank’s characters jump off the page at you, their flaws and failings both familiar and endearing, and their triumphs become your own. It is rare that I give a 5 ribbon rating, but this book deserves nothing less. I am eagerly awaiting Vol.2."- Cat Cody >>>Read full Review

Oh, my, just three to five? That's impossible. I literally have floor to ceiling book shelves with probably over a thousand books, mostly for research, so it is impossible to say which ones are more important.

I have all kinds of books on world religions, including the Bible, the Torah, the Koran, the Tao Te Ching, the Bhagavada Gita and so one. I have non fiction books written to support the religious doctrines, to those criticizing religions. I'm an equal opportunity writer meaning I'll explore everything.

I also have lots of books on mythology from all over the world. Cultures as far away a Korean, or Finnish, or Russian. Nothing is off limits for my writing.

Then there are books on periods in history covering everything from royalty to revolutions, battles to beauty products.

I also have whole shelves devoted to science that involves physics, astronomy, biology and then other shelves that delve into the supernatural or the metaphysical which include books on ghosts, vampires, werewolves, monsters, witchcraft, reincarnation, healing, astral projection, etc.

Fall and spring have always been my favorites. The cycle of the seasons and the ways people used to celebrate, because their lives were more attached to the seasons, is fascinating to me. Fall in the Midwest or New England, will always be a beautiful time for me. There's a crispness in the air, mists at night, the changing of the leaves, the smell of a wood fire, a clear autumn sky filled with stars and the knowledge that the natural world is shutting down, preparing to some degree to hibernate for a while. Pumpkins, Halloween and the reminder of gratitude that Thanksgiving brings are all things that draw me to fall.

But, I also love thunderstorms. The mood of the sky prior to a storm, the sheer power of the lightning and thunder, the smell of the spring rain as it cleanses the newly thawed earth and of course because spring heralds a renewal in nature, the season of birth and the beginning of a new cycle makes it a favorite as well.
