I grew up in a small town in Indiana with two fairly normal parents, a sister,
dogs, cats, and a pony named Rocket. I graduated from college, married, had two
sons, and moved to Arizona where I taught high school speech, drama, and English.
In later years I got a divorce and taught in junior college. I took early retirement
from teaching because I'd always wanted to write. My completed works now include
two supplementary textbooks, a bunch of plays that didn't sell, and four novels
that did. I have one non-fiction book, as yet unpublished, entitled Out of the
Psychic Closet based on some rather unusual experiences I had over a lifetime.
I have a monthly newsletter and a Yahoo group by the same name. Now I have three
grandchildren and write full time. I'm also the contest coordinator for the Arizona
Authors Association.

While
ancient Celtic enemies Lainn chase down through the centuries, the divining fire
reveals a noble destiny awaits him. Two women haunt his soul, one a sworn enemy,
the other beloved, during the turbulent prelude to the American Revolution. Lainns
Destiny and its prequel, Alisons Legacy, are the eighteenth-century segments
of the Alma Chronicles. A group of souls, bound together in a circle of love,
passion, betrayal, and murder, reincarnate lifetime after lifetime. |

Everybody's got a secret story |
Everybody's got a secret story. They are all unique and yet all the same. People
fear revealing themselves as silly or crazy, so they keep silent about psychic
experiences, whether a major premonition, a peculiar dream, or a tiny synchronicity.
The day I was thinking of writing this segment, I took my clipboard and started
making notes while I waited for my car at the carwash. A woman interrupted me
and began to talk. I told her about my books, and she told me about an encounter
she had with an angel, a story she had withheld from her family members for many
years. Why? Because she was afraid they would laugh at her. She didn't seem to
care whether I laughed at her or not because I'd already gone on the record with
my books. I think it's humorous and dear that most people have the same fear and
only need acceptance to reveal their stories.

Q:
When did you know you just had to be a writer? Toby:
I've always known. I wrote little plays for the neighborhood kids when I was growing
up and produced them on the front porch.

Autumn has always been my favorite season for a very selfish
reason. I have an October birthday - Scorpio, if you want to make something of
it. Also, I love to dress up in costumes, whether it's time to trick or treat
or not. That's the way drama teachers are. In Indiana, of course, the seasons
change dramatically, and the turning leaves and crops of corn and squash make
fall the most gorgeous time of year. That's true in the Valley of the Sun, as
well. Almost any flower or tree blooms after the desert summer ends. Also, Samhaim,
the Day of the Dead, Halloween, whatever you want to call it or whatever religion
you follow- that's the time of the dwindling of the barrier between the worlds,
an exciting time of year.
