The Allure of the Bad Boy

Mysterious.  Hot.   What is it about the bad boy that appeals to us?

In my mother’s generation it was James Dean:

Dean happened to be a misunderstood guy with a mega ‘tude and a motorcycle.  Very hot!

Remember THE LOST BOYS?  Kiefer Sunderland could bite me anyday!

If you watch VAMPIRE DIARIES there’s the good vamp, Stefan:

            And bad boy Damon:

            Decisions.  Decisions.

I remember in high school this one guy all the girls were crazy about.  Tall, dark, and definitely very hot.  He drove a brand new car too. My BFF was head over heels in ‘love’ with him.  Ok, so he never actually dated her or knew her name, still, she wanted him.

One day while walking home, he pulled up to me and asked in his husky voice, “Hey, want a ride?”  Even now I get goosebumps!  But being the good girl I was, I turned him down.

He was persistent.  “You sure?” he asked again.  I remember looking over at him, my heart a fluttering and almost getting in.  Then my friend’s face flashed in my mind.  So I told him no and watched him drive off into the Sacramento sunset.

Now that’s real life.  In books who doesn’t fantasize about actually getting into the car and riding off with the mysterious guy?  I especially love the bad boys who are really misunderstood.  Totally love Damon in VAMPIRE DIARIES.  His vulnerabilities only make you want him more!

In my YA paranormal CROSSED OUT, Stephanie feels herself falling for Mark, the new mysterious guy at Sutter High.  All the girls, including her arch rival Hillary, fawn over him.  But who is he interested in?

            Stephanie.

Then there’s the boy next door, Dylan.  Surfer and all round good guy.  He also has his own secret.

Stephanie is torn between being annoyed at Dylan and a growing attraction to him.  Then of course Mark swaggers along and totally confuses her.  She makes a choice.  A choice that has some serious consequences.

Read who Stephanie chooses in my book CROSSED OUT:

Blurb:

Following the light can’t be that hard, right? So why don’t the dead just do it and leave Stephanie Stewart alone? However nothing is ever as simple as it should be, as Stephanie learns when her hidden ‘gift’ becomes more than a nuisance, quickly turning unto a liability. If she can’t learn to trust someone with her secret, the world as she knows it will go to hell. Literally. But if she doesn’t choose wisely, she might just end up learning firsthand how hard it is to follow that light.Because she’s next on the list to be crossed out.

How could I forget Spike? I loved him in BUFFY. Rumor has it he’ll be back in one of the upcoming BUFFY season 8 comics. Can’t wait!

There is one bad boy that you didn’t mention (or if you did I didn’t see it) is Spike from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. My goodness he was good!

    Hi Kim!

Congrats on Crossed Out! I don’t read very much YA geared books, but it sounds like a great read for pile :)!

I so agree with you on Vampire Diaries and the actor who plays Damon – he’s one of the main reasons I watch the show lol.
