Our Review
HIS MISTLETOE WAGER is a connected story to HER ENEMY AT THE ALTAR. It’s a wonderful story in itself but even better because we’re reunited with Hal and his sister, Connie, and her husband and Hal’s best friend, Aaron. It was great to catch up with the characters, and there were a lot of twists and turns to the story that didn’t disappoint. My emotions were involved, from laughter and tears to shock and dismay, and I couldn’t wait to see what would happen next.
The story is set at Christmas, along with holiday fun and lots of parties for the ton. Hal has no interest in settling down, and he has a reputation to prove it. But when Lizzie is caught up in a dare unbeknownst to her, things get interesting fast! Throw in some gossip and rambunctious children along with parties and disreputable characters and my interest was engaged from the first page to the last. There is romance and love in abundance that shines through even when those involved aren’t aware of what they are feeling.
Hal and Lizzie continually butt heads for good reason. Her father has protected her all her adult life due to a deathbed promise he made to his wife. Is it worth the toll it’s taking on Lizzie and Lizzie’s closely guarded secret?
I loved the character of Stevens, Lizzie’s bodyguard, and his interactions with Hal. The characters are multidimensional, and we get to know them a little at a time. The story flows nicely with several story lines that were tied up in the end. There is nice closure with an unexpected twist and a happily-ever-after. The cover is true to the story and the picture in my mind of Hal and Lizzie.
Heath has fast become one of my favorite authors. I jumped at the chance to read and review this book when it was offered. I look forward to reading many more of her historical romances. Give her books a try if you haven’t already. You won’t be disappointed.
