ETERNITY SPRINGS: THE MCBRIDES OF TEXAS TUCKER by Emily March was the first book I’ve read by this author, and I loved it.
Gillian Thacker meets Tucker McBride after Gillian has a fight with her fiancé and storms off. She wrecks her car and is stranded on a backroad in Texas until Tucker comes along and gives her a ride.
It turns out Tucker has just left the military and is headed home to Redemption, Texas, the same place where Gillian lives and runs Bliss Bridal Salon with her mother. Even though Gillian is committed to her fiancé, she is attracted to Tucker. Over the next several months, Gillian and her fiancé continue to be at odds. Just weeks before the wedding, Gillian learns that her fiancé sold the building she’d planned on buying to Tucker. She’s devastated and calls off the wedding.
Tucker has bought the building to start a survivalist school, but he had no idea Gillian intended to buy it. When he learns she broke off her engagement, he pursues her. He’s had feelings for her since they day they met, but he stayed away because of the engagement.
Gillian has feelings for Tucker, but she doesn’t trust her feelings. She thought she loved her fiancé, but now she’s not so sure and she feels it’s too soon to date anyone new.
A few weeks later, Gillian’s college sorority sister comes into the shop looking for a wedding dress. Gillian learns she’s pregnant, and the father is her ex-fiancé. Devastated, she turns to Tucker begging him to get her away for the weekend. He takes her to Las Vegas. They get married and consummate the marriage.
They keep the marriage a secret, but continue their affair. Gillian believes her mother would be upset that her daughter got married in Vegas without her. She wants to keep seeing Tucker, but it has to be in secret. Tucker agrees, but he is determined to make it a real marriage because he’s fallen in love with her. It has a sweet happily-ever-after ending that is very satisfying.
I really enjoyed the book, but I felt like Gillian’s dream of becoming a wedding planner vanished when Tucker bought her building. I would have liked to have seen her find a new way to make that dream a reality, but that story line was just dropped. Even so, I really enjoyed the book.
