Our Review

ADDICTED (An Outlaws Novel #2) is an erotic dystopian romance which takes place in a future where might makes right and protecting each other is the only way to survive. Lennox and Jamie are best friends, and that’s all they’ve ever been, having grown up together. Although Lennox has had deeper thoughts about his friend, he loves her too much to mess up a good thing with sex.

Jamie feels the same way, though she would never tell Lennox that. In the fast-paced world they live in, sex is a pleasure in which many partake, casually and in groups at times. Life is short, so when they can, they indulge.

But after her new crush rejects her, Jamie turns to Lennox. Before they know it, the lines they’ve struggled so hard to keep intact have blurred. All that unrequited passion turns smoking hot.

Elle Kennedy can definitely write a sexy story, and the world she built is rich with detail. But I just had a hard time connecting to the characters. Jamie is strong and smart. Lennox is powerful, sexy, and kind underneath. But the way the characters have sex, think about sex, and engage just felt off for some reason, considering the dangers they constantly face.

This series is new to me, though I’ve read a few others, and one in particular that was very close to this plot-line that I absolutely loved. I don’t have a problem with sexy scenes at all, but in this book they didn’t feel organic to the story. I was more interested in the danger and the love between the two than the actual sex everyone is having throughout the novel.

The writing is well-done, however, and others might feel differently when reading this book. Perhaps reading the first in the series might have made a difference. I don’t know. I’m certainly a fan of Elle Kennedy, but ADDICTED didn’t click with me the way I’d hoped. Not a bad read by any means, but not my favorite book by the author.
