Our Review
What a terrific debut novel from new author Jamie Matthews. LOVE ON THE SOUND is a an exciting romance that takes place on Lopez Island, a small island located off the coast of Washington State. It is a place where all the locals know each other and band together through thick and thin. This is the first book from the author’s LOPEZ ISLAND series and it can be enjoyed as a standalone.
Four years ago Amy Malone lost her beloved husband Kevin in a tragic accident. Naturally her entire world changed, and as a result, she felt like she was just going through the motions of living. So she packed up her stuff and relocated to On the Sound, a dilapidated Bed and Breakfast that she and Kevin inherited from his late aunt. After fixing up the place, Amy became an innkeeper. Running the inn, meeting new people, and being a part of the local camaraderie, kept her relatively happy. However, she would love to share her life with someone once again.
Ben Morrison was a talented, Oscar-nominated, in-demand movie star, until he wasn’t. After a slew of bad movies and decisions, he began to drink a little too much. Doing a national interview completely inebriated, caused whatever was left of his career to perish. In order to figure out his future, Ben knew he had get away from the Hollywood scene and his now tarnished reputation. So Ben’s assistant made him a reservation for an extended stay at On the Sound.
Amy and Ben did not hit if off at first, however, overtime, they became much more than friends. Their passionate fling slowly evolved into love. Amy introduced Ben to her friends and they became his friends as well. Ben got involved in the children’s local theater and began to get his mojo back. Amy opened her heart to love once again and Ben handled it with the utmost care. They are a hot couple, both in and out of the bedroom.
I really liked this book. To begin with, Amy and Ben are well-defined characters and by the end of the story, I knew them quite intimately. The island setting was quite refreshing, as I got used to the characters needing a ferry, boat or plane to travel anywhere off of the island. The secondary characters, especially Ben’s agent Artie, added a true realism to the storyline. Overall, this is a well-written romance with an engaging plot that should not be missed.
