ALONG THE RIO GRANDE by Tracie Peterson is the first book in the new series Love on the Santa Fe.

Widowed at a young age and financially secure, Susanna Jenkins, at her uncle’s request, follows her family to the town of San Marcial, New Mexico. Her father had made bad business decisions, losing all his money. Rather than bail him out again, her uncle puts their family in charge of his new Grand Hotel.

Coming from the upper-crust, her mother will have nothing to do with manual labor or running the hotel. Her father is a little better, but not much. They are horrible people. (That Susanna even stays to help is hard to understand.)

Susanna ends up cleaning the hotel daily and running the front desk at night. All the while, encouraging her parents to see the good in the situation and take responsibility. Her uncle comes to check on the hotel and takes Susanna aside to find out what is going on. He makes some changes, and her father steps up to take more responsibility.

Susanna’s brother gets a job with the railroad. Owen Turner, who works as a boilermaker, mentors him. Owen is smitten with Susanna. They both have issues to overcome. They are sweet together, and I couldn’t help rooting for them to get their HEA.

ALONG THE RIO GRANDE is full of the rich heritage of the Mexican people and stories of characters who inhabit the growing town along the Santa Fe route.

I recommend this book. It is a good read!
