Honor Levinson is an eighty-year-old independent woman who values her privacy. When she falls down the stairs in her home and ends up in the hospital with a broken hip, she realizes she needs help. Her widowed daughter-in-law, Jo, and her only granddaughter, Lydia, are the only family she has, so she turns to them for assistance. Jo has two small children from her second marriage so her house is not quiet. Honor just wants to get well enough so she can go back to her home. The longer Honor stays with them, the more she feels like they are family and realizes she needs them.

Honor has a secret that could take away her independence. Jo’s secret could destroy her normal family life. Lydia’s secret could bring her love or she could lose everything that matters.

All three of their secrets are forced out into the open in one single moment, which leads them to wonder if there are second chances for all of them.

Julie Cohen is a new-to-me author who tells the story chapter by chapter with three main characters as the only subjects. It’s an enjoyable story about three people who realize how much they need each other to become a family. A well-told tale of lessons learned while appreciating the needs of others. It made me think a lot about family dynamics.
