HUNTING FOR A HIGHLANDER by Lynsay Sands is a standalone novel but included in the Highland Brides Series.
Lady Dwyn Innes’s fiancé was killed several years before the story begins. She considers herself on the shelf and is relegated to managing her father’s estates. A call goes out for unwed ladies to come to the Buchanan Castle for potential brides for the remaining unwed brothers.
Dwyn’s father takes her and her young sisters to Buchanan Castle hoping to marry her off and have a son-in-law who can take over as Lord when the father dies. Unbeknownst to Dwyn, her sisters have altered all her dresses. The dresses are super tight, necklines extremely low, and Dwyn’s boobs have a tendency to fall out of her neckline.
Geordie Buchanan has no interest in getting married until he meets Dwyn. Geordie, having come home from travels, finds the great hall filled with guests. So instead of sleeping in the hall, he spreads his blanket out in the orchard under a tree. When he wakes, he sees a woman climbing a tree. He joins her there, thinking he will help the lady down. Their time in the tree talking and getting to know each other ends with a sensuous kiss. Dwyn has no idea who the handsome stranger is, as they did not exchange last names.
There is much mention made of Dwyn’s large chest. It almost seems like every other page discusses her breasts. Geordie thinks about them and covets them. Even when Dwyn is alone she thinks about them. And this threw me out of the book quite a bit. Otherwise, I enjoyed the plot.
In addition to the romance, there’s drama because someone is trying to kill Dwyn (as Geordie has fallen for her and the person wants her out of the way.) There is also the insane neighboring property owner to her father’s property who wants Dwyn for himself.
HUNTING FOR A HIGHLANDER has humor and instant attraction. There are some very sweet getting-to-know-each-other scenes in addition to some hot sexy scenes.
I recommend HUNTING FOR A HIGHLANDER for a warm yet sensual romance.
