Our Review
The final installment in the Rocky Mountain Search & Rescue series, IN SAFE HANDS, proves author Katie Ruggle is a master of romantic suspense. Ruggle expertly weaves suspense, secondary characters, fascinating protagonists, and romantic tension to create a 5 Heart, Recommended Read.
Though this is the fourth book in the series, readers will not be confused if starting at book four. However, to get more enjoyment out of it, I’d recommend starting with book one, HOLD YOUR BREATH (as well as the enjoyable “prequel” ON HIS WATCH). The series arc has revolved around a headless man found in HOLD YOUR BREATH, and each book represents a chapter in that ongoing mystery following members of the Search & Rescue team, as well as a new suspense for the main characters. While previous characters from the series return and take important roles in the case, it’s Deputy Chris Jennings and eyewitness Daisy Little who own this book.
Ruggle made captivating characters come alive as Chris and Daisy, who’ve been good friends for a long time, explore their deeper connection, all while trying to keep Daisy safe from someone out to get her. Daisy had seen something from her window, and the agoraphobia-sufferer never leaves home, so protecting her from an enemy should be an easy thing. Her doors are barred and locked. Always. But the enemy is much closer than anyone realizes.
The treatment of the heroine’s disorder is done with grace, detail, and in such a way that her weakness and struggle to overcome it only enhance the already well-done suspense in the book. I had no idea how the author could give this couple a happy ending, considering the heroine’s strong need for isolation and the hero’s compulsion to be out and about, protecting the public
What an absolutely outstanding book! I was on the edge of my seat wondering what might happen, if Daisy would ever step outside, and more, if Chris would ever admit to his feelings for his best friend. Their relationship blossomed at the perfect pace and will satisfy the most die-hard of romance fans.
IN SAFE HANDS had an amazing blend of humor, passion, mystery, and thrills. The only thing that made me upset was knowing this book ended such an amazing series. Rocky Mountain Search & Rescue is a series not to be missed, and I can’t wait for Kate Ruggle’s next penned romantic suspense book releasing in 2017.
A RECOMMENDED READ!
