ENGAGED TO THE EARL by Lisa Berne is a lively tale of engagement, romance and marriage for Gwendolyn Penhallow. Gwendolyn is engaged to the Earl of Westenbury, and she is extremely happy. Enter Christopher Beck, a childhood friend of Gwendolyn’s, who has returned to England after living abroad for many years. The tale continues with an explanation of Christopher and Gwendolyn’s relationship as children and Christopher’s travels abroad. The reader is then treated to a lively romantic adventure concerning Gwendolyn’s relationships with both the earl and Christopher. What’s really going on and who wins the hand of Gwendolyn is the direction of the story line. I thoroughly enjoyed this story with its twists and turns that include several other interesting characters besides Gwendolyn and Christopher.
