Our Review

HIS KIND OF COWGIRL was a heartwarming read but had darkness and anxiety surrounding it too.  My emotions were involved throughout with tears and some chuckles.  Tanner and Claire have a past but haven’t seen each other in ten years.  When they unexpectedly meet at a crash site involving their two vehicles they’ve both gotten on with their lives or have they?

There is definitely something still between Tanner and Claire but while she’s running scared, he’s digging his heels in.  When she finds out that he’s back in town to help her father save his ranch she goes ballistic thinking he’s giving her dad, who has had a stroke and is still impaired, false hope.  Throw in a failing ranch which Tanner is trying to save that holds a lot of history and memories for Claire, her son Jonathan who needs a lot of attention and has a wonderful imagination, their excitable dog Roxy and the many secrets between Tanner and Claire and things stay interesting and had me turning the pages far into the night.  Watching them try to work together when Claire mostly thinks she knows best was heartbreaking. They seemed to take one step forward and several steps back in their interactions and feelings even when they seemed to connect,

There are family and friends, reminisces that are not all bad, animals, a working ranch, sadness, fear, bullying, anger, hurt, growing up, injuries, rodeos, secrets, resignation, businesses to run, disillusionment, laughter, happiness, forgiveness, understanding, loving and love. The prologue set the stage of what was to come in the story and there is nice closure with a happily ever after in the offing but an epilogue would have been nice.

I’ve read contemporary romances by Rock before and I look forward to reading more that she’s written.  She never disappoints in getting me emotionally involved in a heartwarming tale involving hard work, romance and love!
