Our Review

Rory Andrews feels bad about the way she left her family years ago at the age of seventeen. Having suffered a traumatic incident, she is trying to get her life together. Hoping to make amends, she is desperate to make it home for Christmas. Although she told her stepdad she will be there, she knows he doesn’t believe her because she has broken such promises before. Unfortunately, her only way home is by accepting the ride that Max offers her, along with his big, lovable dog Carl.

Max takes his dog regularly to South Bark Mutt Shop, where Rory works, to be groomed on the days she is there. A decision Rory made years ago made Max’s plans go awry, but he still can’t overcome his desire for her. In fact, since Carl is a Doberman the trips to the groomer are quite excessive, but Max can’t get enough of seeing Rory.

Rory has had a crush on Max since high school and the long drive home in a fierce snowstorm with the sexy man is not helping the situation. She believes he is attracted to her too since she can see the hunger in his eyes whenever he looks at her. They have a history, though she is not sure why things didn’t work out, but from his comments he seems to know something she doesn’t about the situation.

Perhaps their time spent alone on the trip will give them time to iron out their past. Will one steamy, snowy night bring them together and provide them with the best Christmas gift of all.

A sweet holiday tale, ONE SNOWY NIGHT, the latest novella in author Jill Shalvis’ HEARTBREAKER BAY series, is a heartwarming, sexy contemporary romance that brings the holidays to life. Fans of this series will remember Rory as a secondary character in THE TROUBLE WITH MISTLETOE, which features her boss Willa. Even in that story, the chemistry between Rory and Max was undeniable and it only grows hotter with this one. Dog lovers are sure to fall in love with Carl, whose endearing antics add to the humor of this tale. Still, I would like to know more about Max and Carl beyond what was revealed in this novella.

Although this is a quick, short read, it is no less enjoyable. Funny banter, close friendships, second chances, Christmas, a blizzard, passion and love are just part of what makes this story so captivating. This novella can be read as a standalone, but once you read ONE SNOWY NIGHT, I am sure you will seek the previous two books in this collection, including SWEET LITTLE LIES and THE TROUBLE WITH MISTLETOE. The next installment, ACCIDENTALLY ON PURPOSE, due to release in February 2017, is one that I can’t wait to read. Do not miss ONE SNOWY NIGHT, a wonderfully heartening tale. It is a must for the holidays and all year long!
