Janice Kay Johnson:

I’m a little shocked to realize I’ve written over a hundred books, published and forthcoming, including a children’s picture book, young adult novels and two mainstream historical novels (Winter of the Raven and The Island Snatchers) as well as romance novels for Harlequin, Silhouette, Kismet and NAL.  I’ve been an eight time finalist for the Romance Writers of America RITA award, winning once with SNOWBOUND.

Since I was born into a family of readers, it’s  no surprise I was the kind of kid who brought home a huge pile of books every week from the library.  My dad was a college professor See How She Runs by Janice Kay Johnsonwho had the travel bug, so we moved frequently, living all over the west and in Mexico.  I figure my degrees (history from Whitman College, a masters degree in library science from the University of Washington) gave me the perfect background for being a writer.

My greatest achievement?  Two fabulous daughters, both readers, of course.  I’ve also spent many years volunteering for Purrfect Pals, a no-kill cat shelter, fostering, serving on the board, and chairing the annual auction.

Trigger Words by Janice Johnson

When words are her only weapon…

When crisis negotiator and detective Rebecca Walker launches an investigation into the disappearance of a young mother, her discoveries tear open wounds she’d thought long healed.  She must hide her turmoil and doubts, knowing her boss, Lieutenant B.J. “Will” Wilcynski, will yank her from the investigation if he finds out how close to home it strikes.  Painfully aware that each passing day lessens the likelihood Mandy Shaw will be found alive, Rebecca fights for evidence to support her gut feeling about the abductor’s identity.

Her lieutenant has his own battles.  His forbidden attraction to a woman whose warmth touches even the most troubled people is bad enough.  But this isn’t only attraction – she stirs emotions in him he doesn’t understand.  And when Rebecca becomes the focus of a killer who takes pleasure in taunting her, Will is desperate to keep her safe.  His worst nightmare is being helpless to protect her.

Driven to save lives, Rebecca faces an unthinkable choice.  Can she bring herself to goad a man to his death?
