Dukes Behaving Badly Series
Please tell us a little bit about your current projects?
I’ve just turned in the revisions for Why Do Dukes Fall in Love? and then am going to start writing the fourth book in the Dukes Behaving Badly series.
When was the moment that you knew you had to be a writer?
It didn’t hit me like an epiphany or anything; it just seemed as though I should put the years of reading to some sort of use, and I got an idea in my head and just started to write it down.
Who gave you the one piece of writing advice that sticks with you to this day?
I got feedback from an author saying basically that I had talent, but I wasn’t using it correctly. I told my husband, who likened my talent to a basketball player—a basketball player has to be tall (their inherent talent), and skill can be taught. So I went to try to hone my skills on my talent.
Describe the “perfect” hero. What about the “perfect” hero for you?
He’s imperfect! He’s got some sort of flaw that makes him unable or unwilling to be happy. And then the heroine shows him what he’s missing.
What are some of your favorite pastimes? Do you have any hobbies or collections?
I love to read (of course), I like to dance, but I don’t do that often (it’s kinda weird to just start dancing at your own house), I love to eat good food, and I love watching historical movies.
What has been your biggest adventure to date?
I’m trying to think of what constitutes an adventure—I’d say choosing to go to college in NYC was an adventure. Having a son was and is an adventure (he’s 16 now).
If your fairy godmother waved her wand and whisked you away to the location of your choice, which place would you choose, and why?
London! I love that city, and its museums and history just make me giddy. I am a big fan of both beer and tea, and I like nothing more than to walk around and just look at people and things.
When it comes to food, are you the adventurous type who will try anything once, or do you prefer to stick to tried and true foods and recipes?
I am somewhat adventurous, but not the most adventurous food-eater in our family of three. I think I’d take third place, actually. I have a wide palate, so I’d probably try most anything once (except bugs, I don’t think I could deal with bugs).
What is the one modern convenience that you cannot do without? What is this romance writer’s idea of the “ideal romantic evening”?
A coffee maker (such a cliché!). Or a computer, since my hand tends to cramp if I have to write longhand.
The ideal romantic evening is going out for cocktails and dinner with lots and lots of interesting conversation.
How do you describe yourself? How would your family and friends describe you?
I describe myself as wittily anxious. My friends say I’m charming, neurotic, and overly hard on myself.
What is your favorite comfort food?
Chicken pot pie.
What is your favorite season? What do you love about it?
I think I love Spring the best because there is so much promise inherent in it.
What project are you working on next?
The next book in the Dukes Behaving Badly series. This one has a female duchess (!), which did actually happen every so often.
Any place we can find you in person or on the net this month or next?
I’m frequently on twitter (@meganf) sharing my thoughts on most anything that crosses my mind, romance novel related or not.
Thank you for hosting!
