Flipping the Mail Order Bride by Paty Jager, Giveaway

Davis-5x8

Thank you for having me on your blog! I’ll pick one commenter to win an ebook copy of Davis: Letters of Fate, my first book of a new historical western romance series.

When I started brainstorming about this new series, I kept seeing Mail Order Bride books being talked about on the historical western reader loops. It seemed readers liked reading about women taking a leap of faith and heading out to marry a man they’d never met.

My thought was how can I switch it up and change a man’s life, having the story kind of like a Mail Order Bride story. That’s when the idea of a letter arriving that changes the man’s life. That was the beginning of the series Letters of Fate.

The best part about this series is they don’t have to be read in any order. They are set in different places with different characters. The common element is the hero receiving a letter that changes his life and brings him in contact with a feisty woman who captures his heart.

In Davis: Letters of Fate, I brought in the history of Peter French, one of the first cattle barons in Oregon. After doing my research, I discovered his methods of “growing” his ranch were controversial therefore adding external conflict to my story.

The fact the hero is a city slicker who comes to the Bar S Ranch to help the widow keep Peter French from taking the ranch adds to the internal and external conflict. The hero and heroine’s expectations of one another also adds conflict.

My historical western romance books have fist and pistol fights, true history, and passionate love scenes. I enjoy writing about the raw, wild, west and the independent, tough people who expanded our nation.

Davis: Letters of Fate
Widowed with two small children and a ranch to run, Mariella Swanson knows she needs help, but isn’t sure her heart, or neighbors, will accept her marrying a stranger. When the greenhorn shows up, smoking a pipe and wearing a derby hat, she can’t help but wonder if agreeing to this marriage may prove to be her biggest mistake.

When Davis Weston receives a letter from his sister asking him to marry a friend, he scoffs at the idea. However, losing his wife and son has left him a lonely man, and the whispers from others that he didn’t do enough to save his family has gone on long enough. His arrival in Oregon may be worse—these neighbors are doing more than whispering. Guns and horses aren’t his forte. He’s willing to learn, but is he willing to love again?
