Kim Law Q&A: Hardheaded

Hardheaded by Kim Law

An interview with Kim Law, author of HARDHEADED. Kim describes her perfect hero as “someone who isn’t oblivious to the little things about the heroine. He might not see it all, but he sees when she’s hurt, when she needs to be held, or just when she finds humor in a situation where it might not be appropriate to laugh. He can share a silent chuckle with her in those times, then they can laugh about it together later.”

Q & A

An interview with Kim Law, author of Hardheaded

I am so glad you could join us here at Romance Junkies. To start, will you please tell us a little bit about your current project?

Absolutely! And thanks for having me here. Hardheaded is book one in a new series for me. It’s set in Texas, centered around three friends who all landed in the foster care home as teens, and takes on the fun of what can be found in today’s HGTV home renovation shows.

When was the moment that you knew you had to be a writer?

I’m not sure I ever didn’t know it. I remember scribbling as a kid, before I even knew how to actually write letters, and I would be “writing a story” with my scribbles.

Who gave you the one piece of writing advice that sticks with you to this day?

I’ve heard it multiple times from multiple people. Writing the best book possible is the most important thing to winning readers over and bringing them back! So I try my best every single time.

Describe the “perfect” hero. What about the “perfect” hero for you?

The perfect hero is someone who isn’t oblivious to the little things about the heroine. He might not see it all, but he sees when she’s hurt, when she needs to be held, or just when she finds humor in a situation where it might not be appropriate to laugh. He can share a silent chuckle with her in those times, then they can laugh about it together later.

The perfect hero for me would be the same . . . though he’d also have a great butt, wide shoulders, and a smile that makes my heart pound!

What are some of your favorite pastimes? Do you have any hobbies or collections?

I’ve discovered that I like to have “projects.” I’ve actually flipped a house myself in the past (that was loads of fun!), and before we bought the home we’re now living in, I was always coming up with ideas for ways to renovate or update our old house.

Since we moved into a new house, though, my projects have turned to the outdoors. We live on five acres, and there was only one tree when we moved in last year, and little to know landscaping. That is no longer the case, and I still have a long list of ideas to implement. When I’m not coming up with projects to tackle . . . I’m usually reading.

What has been your biggest adventure to date?

There are so many things I can think of as adventures just because I got to see or do things I’d never done before, but I’m not sure any of them were overly “adventurous.” I’m a pretty traditional, careful girl. However, I did take my mom on a nine-day trip out west a couple of years ago. We flew into Denver, rented a car, then set out to explore parts of Wyoming, South Dakota, and Montana. We had no idea what we’d find or where we’d stop each night, and that only added to the fun. That area of the country is simply awe-inspiring, by the way, and that trip was one of the best of my life.

How do you describe yourself? How would your family and friends describe you?

Careful but impulsive, traditional but not afraid to try new things, always wanting to do something or go somewhere, and having a bit of a smart-ass sense of humor. And my friends and family would probably say the same

What project are you working on next?

I’ve already finished book two in my Deep in the Heart series. Softhearted will release in April of 2018. And right now I’m working on book four in my Wildes of Birch Bay series. That series is set in Montana and was the impetus to my trip out west.

Construction tip #1: Never anger a hot-tempered woman who knows how to wield a sledgehammer. And right now, Jill Sadler is spitting mad. Her company is competing on the wildly popular show Texas Dream Home, and she intends to give it her all. The opposition: We Nail It Contractors, helmed by the man who once married her…and walked out twenty-four hours later. Jill can’t let Cal Reynolds take this round. Not when she has her foster sisters and years of righteous resentment spurring her on.

Winning the contest would do wonders for Cal’s firm. Getting under Jill’s skin is just a bonus. She paints him as a villain, though Cal had no choice but to leave. Yet being around Jill again—fiery on the outside, vulnerable and warm underneath—is setting off sparks that can’t be blamed on faulty wiring. And the only way to fix the Jill-size hole in his heart is to risk everything and see if this love is built to last…
