Our Review

ONCE IN A BLUE MOON is a wonderfully paced contemporary romance that I did not want to put down. It kept my interest from the first page to the last. This is the tenth book in the BLESSINGS, GEORGIA series, and I’ve previously only read four of them so I have some catching up to do, although I felt at home immediately. 

We get to know many of the characters so well that they could have been my friends or neighbors—and I live in New England! There is a depth to the characters and many story lines are seamlessly woven together. But through them all, Cathy and Duke are front and center.

There is a richness to the telling of the story as we hear “Bless Your Heart” quite a few times. Cathy is a newcomer and stranger to Blessings, but not for long. Southern hospitality abounds when she takes a spill jogging and is helped by Duke, a stranger.  From there, the people in town get to know who she is and where she lives. And Cathy becomes part of the town.

Having recently relocated from Las Vegas in an unusual manner, she’s not used to small town living. She does one good deed after another though, and when her past looks like it will overtake her, she finds help in unexpected places. As she grows to love Blessings and its inhabitants, especially one in particular, she wrestles with whether to make Blessings her forever home or just the stopping-off place like she planned.

She and Duke have chemistry from the beginning, and they are always doing nice things for each other. His relationship with his brother and his extended family and people in town are heartwarming. Duke, Cathy, and so many others are caring individuals, and it shines through.

Though this is a feel-good story, there are some dark moments. But that only serves to make the kindness throughout this book stand out. With a cast of characters you can’t help but love, ONCE IN A BLUE MOON is a tale of friendships, family, and belonging.  The story has nice closure and a happily ever after that was nicely portrayed, but it also had a small cliffhanger to hint that we’ll be back at least once more in Blessings, Georgia. I for one can’t wait!
