An interview with Ally Broadfield

I am so glad you could join us here at Romance Junkies. To start, will you please tell us a little bit about your current projects?

Right now I’m working on the third book in my How To series, How to Bewilder a Lord. I’m also finishing up the plotting of a contemporary young adult story that was contracted on proposal.

When was the moment that you knew you had to be a writer?

I first started writing while I was still working as a children’s librarian. After spending way too much time thinking about the story, I finally started the actual writing, and from then on, the characters would not leave me alone. They kept suggesting new scenes and trying to dictate dialogue to me, and that was when I knew I had to be a writer (because where else can a girl get away with following the voices in her head?).

What has been your biggest adventure to date?

This would still have to be a class trip to the Soviet Union in the late 1980s. It was a little bit scary, incredibly exciting, and completely fabulous all at the same time (and my roommate and I went for nearly forty-eight hours without using a bathroom, but that’s a story for another time). Seeing the palaces, museums, clothing, art, etc. made fall in love with Russian history and culture, which is why you’ll often find Russian characters sneaking into my Regency books.

What is the one modern convenience that you cannot do without?

Air conditioning. I grew up in the north, but live in Texas now and there’s no way I would survive the summer without it. “Look what you’ve done. I’m melting. Melting.”

What is your favorite comfort food?

Chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream.  I wish it was celery, but alas, that’s not to be.

What is your favorite season? What do you love about it?

Fall. I love when it starts to get cooler outside, the leaves start to change, apples and pumpkins are in season, I don’t have to keep reminding the dogs not to pant on me when we snuggle, and I get to wear clothes that cover up that bit of extra weight I put on from eating too much ice cream during the summer.

What project are you working on next?

I’ll be writing that contemporary young adult book I mentioned earlier. The best description for it is Friday Night Lights meets Step Up.

Thanks so much for hosting me today!

Thanks, Ally!

Their love transcended time…

London, 1812

Captain Mikhail Abromovich would rather single-handedly face the entire French army than follow orders to deceive Anna, the woman of his heart, by feigning a courtship to hide his covert activities.

Ever since a gossip sheet revealed the details of her extensive dowry, Princess Anna Tarasova has been overrun by fortune-hunting lords. When her childhood sweetheart mysteriously appears in London and asks to court her, it seems too good to be true.

For Mikhail, who is both soldier and spy, being chosen to represent Russia in secret negotiations with Britain should be the assignment of a lifetime. But once his deception is revealed, he’s certain Anna won’t believe his love is real.
