Interview with Author Cindy Kirk
I am so glad you could join us here at Romance Junkies. To start, will you please tell us a little bit about your current projects?
I’m currently doing the copyedits on Forever in Good Hope, which will be out in August. I’m also celebrating the recent release of Be Mine in Good Hope, book #3 in the Good Hope series. I have to admit that I’m totally and completely in love with the fictional town of Good Hope and all the people who live in that small community on the Door County (Wisconsin) peninsula. It’s been such a joy to bring these characters to life and see how readers are embracing not only the Bloom sisters and their fabulous dad, but the rest of the community.
When was the moment that you knew you had to be a writer?
In my diary, when I was sixteen, I wrote “I don’t know what I will do if I can’t be a writer.” For as far back as I can remember, I’ve made up stories in my head, changed the endings of television shows and movies. I honestly thought everyone did that, but I’ve since learned, not everyone does. It wasn’t until I was an adult and married with a child that I decided to pursue my dream of being a writer.
Who gave you the one piece of writing advice that sticks with you to this day?
There are so many pieces of writing advice that it’s difficult to pick just one. This one isn’t specific to writing, but it got me through three years of rejections before I finally sold that first book—“Most failures could have been converted into success if someone had held on another minute or made one more effort.”
Describe the “perfect” hero. What about the “perfect” hero for you?
The perfect hero is intelligent, kind, and trustworthy. He doesn’t have to be the best-looking guy in the room or the most successful, but he needs to be someone the heroine can count on, someone who will care about what she wants as much as he cares about his own needs, someone who treats her and everyone with respect.
What are some of your favorite pastimes? Do you have any hobbies or collections?
My favorite pastime is exercise. For so many years, I worked a full-time day job and wrote at night. Exercise fell by the wayside. Now I enjoy my aerobic dance class and walking with my husband or with our Dorkie (dachshund-yorkie mix), Chico. I also, big surprise here, love to read and listen to audio books!
What has been your biggest adventure to date?
My biggest adventure had to be cycling down the Haleakala Volcano on Maui. I saw the sunrise above the clouds (about 10,000 feet above sea level) then biked all the way down. I didn’t realize how dangerous it was, until someone in my group said we’d reached speeds of 40 MPH on our bikes and she’d heard reports of other riders being seriously injured by flipping over the guard rails. YIKES! (Still, it was fun)
How do you describe yourself? How would your family and friends describe you?
I would describe myself as a lover of people. I tend to like almost everyone, except those who are intentionally cruel. I enjoy parties but love smaller, more intimate get-togethers even more. I think my family and friends would describe me as well-organized, very disciplined, extrovert.
What project are you working on next?
I’m finishing up another Good Hope book (Eliza’s story) and then I have a new series that I’m proposing set in a small community outside of Chicago. While I plan to continue the Good Hope series, I’m super excited about this new town and characters.

Summary
Celebrated hairstylist Marigold Bloom knows how to tease beauty out of chaos…until her own life becomes untamable. After losing her prestigious job in Chicago, Marigold returns home to Good Hope, Wisconsin. But her plan to lay low and consider her next move is complicated by an unexpected blast from the past.
Sheriff Cade Rallis has never forgotten the blissful weekend he spent with the irresistible Marigold in Door County. Seeing her again is like a one-two punch to his heart, and he knows he can’t lose her a second time.
Marigold never meant for her stay in Good Hope to be permanent, and she certainly never meant to fall for Cade. As Valentine’s Day approaches and her dream job beckons, will Cupid’s grip on Marigold be strong enough to keep her in Good Hope? Or will the lure of fame and fortune in the big city prove impossible to resist?
Cindy Kirk started writing after taking a class at a local community college. But her interest in the written word began years earlier when she was in her teens. At sixteen, she wrote in her diary: “I don’t know what I would do if I couldn’t be a writer.” When she returned to her first love—writing—she jumped feetfirst into book-length fiction. She loves reading and writing romance because she believes in the power of love and in happily ever after. An incurable romantic and an eternal optimist, Kirk loves seeing her characters grow and learn from their mistakes and, in the process, achieve a happy ending through the power of love. She and her high-school-sweetheart husband live in Nebraska with their two dogs.
