An interview with Katy Evans, author of MILLION DOLLAR DEVIL.

Q & A

I am so glad you could join us here at Romance Junkies. To start, will you please tell us a little bit about your current project?

Thank you so much for having me over at Romance Junkies! 🙂

My current release is Million Dollar Devil. I’ve always been a complete fan of stories where e a girl from the wrong side of the tracks gets a total makeover and is believed to be royalty/special. Well, I always wondered WHAT would happen if this were reversed, and we got a very rough-around-the-edges, sexed-up, testosterone-laden guy who’s supposed to get the makeover… 😀

When was the moment that you knew you had to be a writer?

I was about 12 and completely hooked with the Sweet Valley High series. I couldn’t get enough and knew that I wanted to one day make people feel the way I felt when I got transported into these characters’ minds and lives.

Who gave you the one piece of writing advice that sticks with you to this day?

Hmm. Mostly I’ve gathered bits and pieces throughout the years, but I don’t remember from who or where. But the most important bit of advice that has stuck with me is to find your own voice, the one that is completely unique and no one else can do like you but you. It really helps you connect with your uniqueness, and it also helps you to allow your writing to flow. Sometimes we make easy things hard, and when you like writing, it ‘could’ be easy…if you let it naturally happen instead of overthinking everything.

Describe the “perfect” hero. What about the “perfect” hero for you?

I love my heroes a little on the raw side. Even when they are polished, there is an animalistic quality, a primitiveness about them, that I just love. A perfect hero is rough-around-the-edges, but isn’t a total a-hole: deep down, he has a good heart. He’s loyal, honest, a little possessive, and totally swoony in his confidence and ruthlessness when he goes after what he wants.

What are some of your favorite pastimes? Do you have any hobbies or collections?

Pastimes and hobbies definitely have to include baking gluten-free meals and taking pictures, and I also love spending time in nature with my dogs. I’m a sucker for relaxing things that help my creativity flow.

What has been your biggest adventure to date?

Oh, let’s see. That I had a mountain lion as a pet when I was young?

Meeting Sylvester Stallone and getting scolded cause we were filming him walking down the street?

I think the biggest adventure is life itself. Always surprising, taking you down roads you’d never dreamed of. 🙂

How do you describe yourself? How would your family and friends describe you?

My family and friends tend to say that I’m loyal, smart, affectionate and super talkative and very passionate about everything I care about.

What project are you working on next?

I’m working on another two book series that I’m really excited about and am looking forward to sharing with you hopefully by the end of the year. I truly can’t wait!
