Our Review

A SEASON ON THE WIND by Suzanne Woods Fisher takes place in the Amish community of Stoney Ridge, PA.

Ben Zook, close to forty in age, is a famous bird watcher and author of many published bird books. He has returned to Stoney Ridge in search of an elusive bird. He left when he was a teenager after a falling out with his father. He wants to find the bird, take a picture for his next book, and leave before anyone knows he’s there.

Penny Weaver, unmarried at thirty, rents Ben a cottage. She remembers him from their youth. She doesn’t understand why Ben does not remember their friendship.

Penny’s brother Micah is a top-notch birder and hires out to help Ben find the elusive bird. Micah has an entry from his birding journal which begins each chapter. I really enjoyed this part of the book and learned a lot about different birds.

There are two love stories in this book. Penny has been in love with Ben since he left the Amish community. Ben stumbles along a little self-centered till he realizes Penny is the one for him.

The second is a teen romance between Micah and the neighbor girl who first spotted the rare bird. Both romances are sweet reads with satisfying endings.

A SEASON ON THE WIND is a book I highly recommend.
