Our Review

AN AVALON VALENTINE was a pleasant surprise, and Darien Gee is a new-to-me author. While not listed as a series, there are other books set in Avalon, and I look forward to reading them as well.  FRIENDSHIP BREAD, THE AVALON LADIES SCRAPBOOKING SOCIETY, and AN AVALON CHRISTMAS have all been added to my always growing TBR pile. I look forward to learning more about the characters I met in AN AVALON VALENTINE and getting to learn each of their back stories.

Love is definitely in the air in more ways than one in Avalon!  The women of Avalon take their love seriously no matter what their age. There is a lot of romance and flowers and the chocolate is flowing. There are decadent baked goods that I could almost taste, and even the kids are getting involved. There is a kissing booth, a Valentine’s assembly for the elementary and middle school students, parties, cards and a lot of fundraising.

Hannah is front and center with her boyfriend, Jamie, but they seem to be hitting a rough patch, as are Connie and Eli. Goldie and her husband, Edward, of fifty years are still learning things about each other and she gets a few surprises. Lucia, who makes chocolate and is trying to build a business doing so, is looking for love and may have found it. But is it too late?  Even Gracie, who is only a second grader, is immersed in Valentine’s Day–sometimes more than she’d like to be especially since her heart is being broken.

The residents of Avalon and their lives could be in any small town in America. Their trials and tribulations of love come out around Valentine’s Day. There seems to be a mystery to solve and some heartbreak in with the heartwarming moments. There is nice closure but a few loose ends that have me hoping we’ll be back in Avalon again.
