Our Review

BOOK OF NIGHT by Holly Black is an adult fantasy/romance novel.

Growing up, Charlie Hall didn’t have a traditional education. Instead of spending time on the playground, she learned how to con people, pick locks, and steal priceless books.

At twenty-eight, she’s spent half her life working for gloamists and magicians who manipulate shadows to peer into locked rooms, strangle people in their beds, and worse. Charlie’s making a fresh start by distancing herself from past mistakes, but getting out isn’t easy between her sister, Posey, who is desperate for magic, and Charlie’s shadowless—and possibly soulless—boyfriend who’s hiding things from her. It keeps her on the peripheral of the corruption she’s trying to escape.

When Charlie’s past returns, she must fight for her life against doppelgangers, entitled billionaires, and gloamists, all trying to steal a secret that will give them immeasurable power.

I listened to this on audio and loved it, looking for any excuse to listen. The romance is the perfect blend of mystery and suspense with an interesting twist at the end. I recommend this book.
