Our Review

BRIGHTER THAN THE SUN is the latest installment in Maya Banks’s action packed KGI series. While this is the eleventh book in the series, it can be read as a stand-alone with very minimal spoilers. This book focuses on the last bachelor in the Kelly clan–Joe Kelly–and brings the story back home into the KGI compound on the beautiful shores of Kentucky Lake in Tennessee. This book brought back all the love I had for the KGI series and has me anxiously awaiting the next book.

Joe Kelly has watched as each one of his brothers fall victim to love and has no immediate plans to take the plunge. Joe is happy with his casual flings, but he can’t deny that from time to time he does get a bit envious of what his siblings get to go home to. While at a family picnic, Joe is introduced to a friend of his sister’s and is instantly aware of the skittish yet beautiful woman, wanting to protect and defend her in equal measure.

Zoe Kildare is the identity that Rusty Kelly–her only friend in the world–created for her to escape her terrible reality. Zoe is on the run from a man who wants to harm her and a family that couldn’t care less about her. Now that Zoe is at the KGI compound with her only friend, she can actually breathe again. That is, until she is introduced to Rusty’s big brother, Joe. Joe makes her feel things she never thought possible and has her wishing that dreams really did come true.

This book had all the angst, emotion, and love that has been missing from the series. Having the focus back on the Kelly family, along with cutting back on all the action, dedicating only a small part to a mission, made this book exceptional. I loved the family dynamics among the entire Kelly clan and how they closed ranks to protect their own. Fans of the series will definitely not want to miss this one.
