Our Review

COWBOY TO THE CORE is a nice continuation of the GOLD VALLEY series. This is the sixth book, but there are definitely more stories to tell. We once again meet up with the Daltons and the Dodges, both of whom live on neighboring ranches and whose paths cross due to the small town of Gold Valley. This time it is Gabe Dalton and Jamie Dodge’s story, and it’s hotter than I expected–and they’re not even the ones engaged!

When Jamie takes a job at Gabe’s ranch to help train horses, he gets a lot more than he bargained for. Jamie is always feisty and calls it like it is since she grew up with three brothers and their dad. Since Jamie was surrounded by men, she learned to blend in and stand up for herself. She’s not girly at all and still an innocent. Gabe doesn’t know what hit him when she starts giving the orders and tells him what he’s doing wrong. The attraction and sizzle are there between them, but neither knows quite what to do about it.

I loved the descriptions of the setting, especially the importance of the horses. Both Gabe and Jamie have dreams, but will they be able to realize them? Will they lose their friendship or gain even more? There are family dynamics to deal with for both families. The story flows nicely. and the characters definitely have a depth to them. I look forward to reading more books in the series.

I enjoy Ms. Yates’s cowboy stories. I’ve read most of the books in this series but have missed several along the way, SMOOTH-TALKING COWBOY, GOOD TIME COWBOY and HARD RIDING COWBOY. I will go back and rectify that. There are at least two more books in the series, LONE WOLF COWBOY and COWBOY CHRISTMAS REDEMPTION.  I look forward to reading them both.
