Our Review

HONOLULU by Alan Brennert is a beautiful historical romance set in Honolulu in the early 1900s.

The story is about a Korean girl named Jin who becomes a picture bride, pinning all her hopes and dreams on a new life in Hawaii. Unfortunately, her field worker husband is abusive, and she runs away to Honolulu. Desperate to make a life for herself, she etches out a living and supports herself as a seamstress.

She meets Jae-sun, a widower, and falls in love. For a Korean woman, divorce is taboo, but with the help of a friend she finds the courage to divorce her abusive husband and marries Jae-sun. They build a life together.

HONOLULU is a beautiful love story, set in paradise, about a strong woman who meets a man who will support her dreams and goals. But it’s her innate kindness and giving heart that I loved. A beautiful love story I couldn’t put down.
