Our Review

INN BY THE LAKE is a quick read with many stories being told. This is Amanda and Luke’s story, and they are both workaholics in their chosen fields. When their paths cross on a personal level, there’s definitely an attraction. But when Amanda finds out that her position as a lawyer is a conflict of interest because the firm she works for represents the developer that wants to purchase Luke’s family’s inn, what’s she to do? Especially since she doesn’t let Luke or his parents know when she first finds out.

A weekend away with the bridal party for her best friend is a nice escape into the mountains of Maryland. The inn they will be staying at is on a beautiful lake with waterfalls and other historic sites nearby. The scenic descriptions are so vivid they transport the reader right there! Amanda’s friendships are portrayed in detail, and Luke’s family’s inn takes center stage.

There’s a mysterious diary of a young girl found in the wine cellar that might shed historical significance on the inn. But is it too little, too late to save it? The story has layers of past mixed with the present. The main characters are well-drawn, and Luke’s family are a terrific set of secondary characters which enrich the story. Ms. Tilghman is a new-to-me author.  I look forward to reading more of her books.
