Our Review

TACOS FOR TWO by Betsy St. Amant, is a contemporary enemies to lovers trope.

Rory inherited her Aunt’s food truck. She hates cilantro and doesn’t know how to cook. She is trying desperately to keep the food truck operating for her cousin Hannah’s sake who has Downs Syndrome and is living in an adult care situation.

Grady, the chef, cooks and she takes orders. When a handsome man, Jude, asks for cooking lessons she agrees. There are some funny scenes as her chef is sick and coaxing her along through her ear buds on how to teach Jude to cook.

Jude loves to cook, in fact he wants to own a food truck. His manipulative father makes a deal with him if he can win the food truck contest in town, Jude can leave their law firm to pursue that career with full support from him.

Rory is incensed when she learns that Jude, who comes from a wealthy family, is her competition in the food truck contest. She needs to win for her cousin Hannah’s sake and keep Grady gainfully employed. But there can only be one winner.

Rory and Jude under assumed names have been chatting for a couple of months on a dating site that doesn’t allow in person meetings for three months. Think “You’ve got Mail”. They really like each other and both can see this relationship going somewhere. Their text messages are priceless and funny.

TACOS FOR TWO is a wonderful story that kept me reading long into the night.
