Our Review

WHERE THE ROAD BENDS is a historical romance set in the late 1800s in Iowa. The first few chapters are set on Norah’s family farm outside of Blackwell. If she marries Jake, an older man she doesn’t love, she can save the farm. Before that happens, she finds Quincy seriously hurt on her land and saves him, little knowing how their lives will intersect.

Norah and Quincy get to know each other during the short time they are together as he convalesces on her farm. He ends up relocating to Longfield, Iowa and changes his life for the better thanks to talks he and Norah shared. Two years later their paths cross again. This time he’s in a position to help her. But he has secrets that could tear them apart.

The story has a good flow as we are introduced to many characters important to the story. Norah’s trying to put her past behind her but doesn’t know if she can stay in Longfield, or if she should go farther west. She and Quincy often have trouble communicating, but as they get past their troubles, will they ever be totally free from their pasts?

WHERE THE ROAD BENDS is an emotional story of two people who help each other be better together than they are apart. Emotional, with vivid scenes and a rich history, the author shows two injured souls coming together and falling in love despite their many obstacles. There is nice closure with the epilogue that takes place one year later, though I wish it had gone on a little longer. The Discussion Questions at the back of the book that are thought provoking. A very enjoyable read!
