Carolyn Brown’s Top 5 Food/Meals for the Holidays
1. Turkey (of course) and cornbread dressing. Add some homemade hot rolls—my grandkids say it’s the only time they can talk me into making bread so they can put them away.
2. Ham. Now some folks think this is an Easter thing but we like it for all holidays. And if you’ve got ham, you have to have Grammy Goshorn’s baked beans and candied sweet potatoes.
3. Pecan pie. Mama made the most amazing pecan pie for all the holidays and we’ve carried on that tradition in her memory. In our part of the world, we have our own pecans so we make several so the kids can take home leftover.
4. Speaking of leftovers. That’s as much a part of our holiday meals as anything. We buy up a bunch of containers and send everyone home with leftovers for the next day.
5. Macaroni and cheese. Sounds strange? Well, it’s a tradition in the Brown household. Made with real butter, cream and lots of cheese, there’s very seldom a spoon full left to send home with the kids.
