Exclusive Interview with Melissa Foster

Call Her Mine by Melissa Foster

Exclusive Interview with Melissa Foster, author of CALL HER MINE….

Ben Dalton has always been honest, except where his heart is concerned. He’s been in love with his best friend—saucy, smart-mouthed Aurelia Stark—forever. But Ben’s a planner, and timing has never been on his side. When he finally decides to make his move, Aurelia beats him to the punch with a move of her own—to a different town.

Aurelia loves her new life in the charming town of Harmony Pointe. She has a great apartment and her very own bookstore, and best of all, the sinfully hot, commitment-phobic friend she’s crushed on for years is no longer just around the corner. Maybe she’ll finally be able to leave her unrequited love behind and move on.

Q & A

1. I am so glad you could join us here at Romance Junkies. To start, will you please tell us a little bit about your current project?

CALL HER MINE is loaded with heat, humor, and heart. The only woman Ben Dalton wants is his best friend, Aurelia Stark. But Ben’s a planner, and while waiting for the right moment to reveal his feelings, Aurelia has moved on. But an abandoned baby takes Ben’s needs to another level—and direction—and Aurelia can’t help but be there for him. This is their hilarious, emotional, and oh-so steamy love story. Bring tissues.

2. When was the moment that you knew you had to be a writer?

I get a little thrill every time I’m asked this question because it takes me right back to the day in 1991 when I put my second-oldest son down for a nap and was suddenly overwhelmed with voices in my head. I had to give voice to them, and that was the day I knew this was my calling.

3. Who gave you the one piece of writing advice that sticks with you to this day?

One of my favorite people on earth is MJ Rose. She was there to answer my ridiculously naïve questions at the start, and she’s always there for me now, years later. She told me to hire more than one proofreader. It sound elementary, and at the time I wondered why that was the one thing she harped on. It was the best advice I’ve ever received. In addition to my developmental and copy editors, I currently use five proofreaders for every book because readers deserve not only a good story, but quality presentation. (Thanks, MJ!)

4. Describe the “perfect” hero. What about the “perfect” hero for you?

I don’t believe there is only one perfect hero, for me or for anyone. How boring would reading be if that were true? But I do believe there are traits that are consistent. I love heroes who are loyal, honest, passionate about life and love, and above all else, who make their heroines feel loved and respected. Some heroes are funny, others are broody, but they all possess those key qualities noted above, and Ben is at the top of that list.

5. What are some of your favorite pastimes? Do you have any hobbies or collections?

I guess reading and spending time with my family is a given 🙂 I love to exercise, talk with friends, and spend oodles of time on Cape Cod trying not to think up too many stories (because I already have years’ worth of them piled up in my crazy brain!). I love new things, and if you can pull me away from my computer, I’ll dive into just about any pastime as long as it doesn’t require a plane to get there.

6. What has been your biggest adventure to date?

Raising six kids in a blended family! #Truth

7. How do you describe yourself? How would your family and friends describe you?

I’m an open book, and thanks to my amazing mother, I live life paying-it-forward to everyone I can. I think positivity flows in my veins. I’m outgoing, overly chatty, and probably more sensitive about things than people think.

8. What project are you working on next?

My next project is the first in a new summer series. It hasn’t yet been announced, but I know readers of my Sugar Lake and Harmony Pointe series will adore the big-families and beach setting. Readers can sign up for my newsletter and follow me on Facebook to catch the announcement.
