4 out of 5 stars “Wow, did I enjoy the crap out of this book. When I decide to read a romance novel, what I’m really looking for is escape – I want to read something completely unlike my actual life, with situations that I would never find myself in. And boy, oh boy, did this fit the bill.” – Goodreads reviewer Alexander

About the book

Lily has spent a lifetime putting everyone else’s needs before her own.

Ethan is struggling to find a place in the home he left behind.

When the two meet by chance in an empty apartment, everything changes. Drawn together by an inexplicable desire, Lily and Ethan discover a passion neither knew existed. And so, they make a pact: Nothing from their outside lives will enter the apartment—not even their names.

Q&A with Amanda Black

Which character was the most fun for you to create?

It’s so difficult to choose only one because there is so much of me in each and every character, even the men. At some point in the book every single major character shares a feeling or a thought that I have expressed at one time or another. My thoughts and ideas range wildly and swing all over the place, so it was fun inserting different phrases/arguments I’ve had into so many different types of characters.

Is this your favorite character in the series? Or is there one that has a special place in your heart?

I think I would have to say that Maggie is very near and dear to me. I used her to work through a lot of things in my life and she never let me down.

What was your proudest moment when writing The Apartment series?

When my editor suggested finding a way to make a few standalone stories connected, it was like a floodgate opened and all of these future ideas came rushing in that made so much sense that I didn’t know why I’d never seen it before. So I would have to say it was when I actually made it a series.

What is your favorite part of the series and why?

Well, the series is only getting started! I just finished some rewrites of the next installment, and there’s another after that one that is about halfway through the first draft. Plus, I’ve got another idea lined up for when I’m finished with that!

As for this first book, I’d have to say that my favorite part is when everything sort of flips around and goes backwards. Lily and Ethan start out so hot and heavy, then have to actually try to turn that into a relationship. There’s all the awkwardness that comes with knowing someone so well physically but not at all personally.

About Amanda

Amanda Black was born and raised in the Midwest, where she still lives with her husband and spoiled-rotten dogs. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Studio Art before deciding that she actually needed to pay some bills, which is when she took a position as an ophthalmic technician.

For the past few years she’s been a closet romance writer in her spare time and would love nothing more than to make it a full-time career. When she’s not writing her next steamy love scene, her interests include reading, sketching, and annihilating her friends and family in movie trivia.
