Any Dream Will Do by Debbie Macomber

Shay Benson has spent the last three years of her life in prison for stealing money to help her brother, Caden. She knew it was wrong to steal so she didn’t expect any leeway when she was caught.

The bus from the prison stops in front of a church where she gets off. Not knowing what else to do and it being cold outside, Shay enters a church to get warm. Shay has no place to stay so she is trying to figure out her next move.

Shay realizes she isn’t alone in the church when she sees a man in the front pew. Pastor Drew Douglas is praying for guidance to know what he can do to save his church. Drew’s wife had died four years ago and the congregation was getting smaller every week. He feels like he is losing his faith.

When Drew realizes there is a woman sitting in the back pew, he goes to see if she needs some help. Shay is getting up to leave because she figures he is going to ask her to leave. Drew just wants to find out her situation. Shay tells him she was just released from prison and has no place to go. Drew offers to call a friend of his who runs a place called Hope Center. He wants to see if there are any openings. Hope Center takes women in who need a place to stay and help them find a job.

Drew takes Shay to Hope Center for an interview to see if she passes their requirements for their 12-month program. Shay is grateful to Drew for helping her to find a way to make a life for herself again. They become good friends and deeper feelings start to form. Shay meets his kids and forms a bond with them as well.

This story is one of faith in your fellow man and the compassion of others. Two lost souls who need help to make their lives complete again is the basis for this novel. Debbie Macomber is a great storyteller and her stories leave a lasting impression on you to use in your everyday life. I recommend this book to anyone who needs shown that life is what you make of it.
