Please tell us a little bit about your current projects?Hello! Well, right now I’m working on a scifi romance to release in May, two short stories for two separate anthologies (one an alien romance, the other an angel story), a superhero romance and two YA dystopian shorts. *takes a deep breath* and that’s only the main projects.

When was the moment that you knew you had to be a writer? I’ve always been writing for as long as I can remember. But the moment I decided I wanted to be published? Yeah, I remember that. End of September, 2009 when I finished the first draft of a 100K scifi romance.

Who gave you the one piece of writing advice that sticks with you to this day? Not advice exactly. My dad told me I couldn’t write when I was eighteen. Well, being of a rather stubborn nature, I decided to prove him wrong.

Describe the “perfect” hero. What about the “perfect” hero for you? All the heroes in my book are my idea of perfect, though all are generally far from being so. I prefer beta to alpha, although I wouldn’t describe Zander in Tethered as beta especially. They are strong, quiet, but dedicated to their cause and/or to their soulmates. Most are often wounded in some way, be it physically, mentally or emotionally – sometimes all three. They would lay their heart and life on the line for their partner, but they are also wise enough to stand aside if the heroine wants to do it herself. They believe in partnerships, not in domination.

What are some of your favorite pastimes? Do you have any hobbies or collections? I love to dance for fitness, love to sew (especially cosplay), and I’m a huge scifi fan. I have a few collectables like a teleport bracelet from the cult TV series Blake’s Seven, a SFX Lightsaber, a couple of original Star Wars space craft, and a picture of me with Sylvester McCoy (the 7th Doctor) taken at a signing when I was just eighteen. I’ve also just spent three months converting a fairly standard doll into one of the characters from my book, and I’m rather proud of the result.

What has been your biggest adventure to date? Aside from becoming an author? Lol. My husband and I took a trip to Taiwan in 2000 after a friend went out there to work. It was a huge culture shock, but also incredibly exciting.

If your fairy godmother waved her wand and whisked you away to the location of your choice, which place would you choose, and why? I want to go to Louisiana. I set a book there and did a ton of research and pestered friends I knew lived there to get the details right. Would love to see it for real.

When it comes to food, are you the adventurous type who will try anything once, or do you prefer to stick to tried and true foods and recipes? I will try most things, unless it’s raw and/or has tentacles. I just can’t bear the thought of putting tentacles in my mouth, even if cooked.

What is this romance writer’s idea of the “ideal romantic evening”? To be able to curl up on the sofa with my husband without the kids, and maybe watch a film together. Quiet time together, just to cuddle even is just so precious.

What is your favorite comfort food? Pasta in a tomato and cheese sauce – the more cheese, the better.

What is your favorite season? What do you love about it? I love autumn. It’s not as hot as summer, but comfortably warm with enough hours of daylight to go out in the evening but that doesn’t wake you at stupid o’clock for sunrise. I love the colours, all the reds, browns, and golds. People start burning fires indoors of an evening, or you get more bonfires outside, and I love that smell of burning wood.

What is the one modern convenience that you cannot do without? My smartphone. OMG. I love my phone, and it pretty much does everything for me work and social media wise. It’s my contacts list, appointment diary, notepad, and social media mainstay. I do most of my internet stuff on it, use it for email and Twitter more than my computer, and I’ve even written a 17K novella on it while away on holiday.

What project are you working on next? I’m doing Camp NaNoWriMo next month to write part two of a YA dystopian romance, the first part of which is releasing in April.

After spending twelve years working as an Analytical Chemist in a Metals and Minerals laboratory, Pippa Jay is now a stay-at-home mum who writes scifi and the supernatural.
