Synopsis:

On the anniversary of the ancient Makahiki festival, reincarnated Hawaiian warrior, Lio Paiaki, goes back in time to face a deadly enemy: himself.

In the final chapter of the exciting Last Warrior series, Lio Paikai rushes to the hospital with his lover, Kord, for the birth of his baby brother, Lono. They’re soon waylaid, however, by traffic on the Pali Highway.

Not by cars, but foot traffic. He and Kord, who once were warriors for the last king of Oahu, have intercepted an ancient procession of devotees marching down the old Pali for the Makahiki. They’re stunned to learn dark kahuna forces plan to provide a blood sacrifice for the New Year festival.

The sacrifice they have inadvertently crossed paths with is Lio’s. He must right past wrongs—or there won’t be any future for him or the man he loves.

Author Interview:

please tell us a little bit about your current projects?

Hi Romance Junkies, I am so glad to be back here. It feels like I’m coming home! I’m here to talk about Makahiki, the third and final book in my Last Warrior series now available at Breathless Press.

I feel it’s so timely that the book is being released now because Makahiki is the ancient Hawaiian celebration of New Year’s and here we are in the New Year!

Except that for my character, Lio Pakai, being the reincarnation of ‘Ailani, a fierce, ancient, tribal warrior, there’s no champagne, caviar, or singing Auld Lang Syne…no, for poor Lio, he’s suddenly thrust into the past in the middle of an island war! Not only that, but he soon discovers somebody from his past who’s also reincarnated in the present, is trying to kill him. Somebody very close to him…

When was the moment that you knew you had to be a writer?

You’ll think me precocious, but it was when I watched Mary Poppins as a kid. I loved that movie. It was the second one I ever saw! But anyway, it bothered me that she went away at the end. Sorry if I’m spoiling it for anyone out there reading this but I suspect everyone in the world has seen this movie! Anyway, I remember wishing I’d written the book myself. She’d never have left the Banks children. She would have stayed with them forever. That’s when I decided I had to write my own stories.

Who gave you the one piece of writing advice that sticks with you to this day?

That’s a tough question because I’ve been given so much good advice but I would say the best came well into my career – and it was from your very own Dorine Linnen!! I’d had a book released and got a couple of really rotten reviews on Goodreads. I was emotionally crippled by these reviews. In fairness to myself, the book hadn’t even been written yet, let alone made publicly available, so I thought it was a bit rough to do that to me. Anyway, Dorine said to all of us authors who’d suffered through bad reviews that we should never read them. Good or bad, because they mess with the muse. I must say, my life is a lot happier since I took her advice!

What are some of your favorite pastimes? Do you have any hobbies or collections?

I do a lot of volunteer work. I give my time at Braille Institute helping to transcribe books for children. Reading is a big part of my life and I want to help blind children discover the gift of writing. Braille was all but banned in our schools and blind students were encouraged to listen to audio books, with disastrous results. Many of them never go past high school or go on to college. They wind up on disability…not good!

I am also involved in animal rescue. I volunteer at a feline rescue. I adopted both my kitties from there. My foster failures! But really, I work a lot and when I am not working, I spend as much time as possible with my family (including my pets). I love to walk and spend time in nature.

What has been your biggest adventure to date?

Probably running from an exploding volcano! I still have the lava-soaked boots to prove it in case I think I was dreaming!

If your fairy godmother waved her wand and whisked you away to the location of your choice, which place would you choose, and why?

I would go back in time to Pompeii just before it erupted. I wish I could have seen what it was like – and also, I would make sure I could rescue that poor dog still trapped there in lava. I would rescue him and bring him home with me!

What is the one modern convenience that you cannot do without?

My typewriter. I still have the first one I was ever given by my dad when I was 12. It was an Olivetti and it’s travelled the world with me.

What is this romance writer’s idea of the “ideal romantic evening”?

My favourite idea of a romantic evening would be to do some really good writing and for my boyfriend to cook dinner for me! Then we’d have some fun re-enacting some of my sex scenes from my book!

What is your favorite comfort food?

Apples. No, no. I can’t lie. It’s chocolate.

What is your favorite season? What do you love about it?

Without question, Fall. I love the changing of the leaves, the gearing up for all the wonderful holidays I love – Thanksgiving, Christmas. I am not into Halloween, probably because I didn’t grow up with it, but I do enjoy seeing the cool costumes little kids run around in…
What project are you working on next?
I have a ton of books coming out and lots of free stuff! Thanks so much for having me here. I’m posting all my links below!
