Q & A

Sandra Owens Interview

I am so glad you could join us here at Romance Junkies. To start, will you please tell us a little bit about your current projects?

Thank you. I’m thrilled to be here. My current project is the Aces & Eights series. It’s about three brothers, Alex, Court, and Nate Gentry, who are undercover FBI agents. They own a biker bar, Aces & Eights, a front for their covert operations. The last thing the brothers want is to fall in love… but you know how that goes!

When was the moment that you knew you had to be a writer?

In fourth grade I had one of those teachers I hope every child is blessed with getting at some point. Her name was Mrs. Bronson, and it didn’t take long for her to see that I tended to embellish any creative assignments, such as what I did on my summer vacation. Instead of telling me she knew I hadn’t spent a week in a cabin deep in the woods with a ghost dog that saved my life, she told me I’d make a good fiction author some day. She encouraged my creativity, and I’ll be forever grateful to her because it was then the idea of writing books someday germinated.

Who gave you the one piece of writing advice that sticks with you to this day?

My first editor on my first published book, Cindy Davis, who told me if I didn’t stop using the word ‘look’—as in he looked at her, she looked at him—she was going to personally come to my house and take away the L and O keys on my keyboard.

Describe the “perfect” hero. What about the “perfect” hero for you?

My perfect book hero—the heroes I write—are alphas with a soft heart (although they don’t like to admit that). They are sexy, strong, sometimes opinionated, and protective, but they also listen, are supportive, and believe women are perfectly capable of taking care of themselves. The perfect hero for me is a man who can make me laugh, one who listens and acknowledges my feelings, and is supportive. I’m blessed because I have a man like that in my life.

What are some of your favorite pastimes? Do you have any hobbies or collections?

Reading is my very favorite pastime. I also love to travel, something both my husband and I enjoy, so we do a lot of that. Fortunately, I can write anywhere, so my job goes wherever I go. I do have a collection. I love Miss Martha’s All God’s Children pieces and have been collecting them for quite a few years.

What has been your biggest adventure to date?

This one’s easy. It would be when I parachuted from a plane. Doing that had been on my bucket list for a long time, and I finally did it a few years ago. It was a tandem jump with a professional parachuter and was amazing! I’d do it again in a minute.

How do you describe yourself? How would your family and friends describe you?

I’d describe myself as shy, easy going (seriously, I’m one of those people who doesn’t worry about anything, believing things will work out in the end, and they usually do), kind, and curious. My family and friends would say… Honestly, I’m not sure. My daughter-in-law thinks I’m cool because I rode a Harley-Davidson for years and because I write romance books. My son tends to roll his eyes when I post pictures of hot guys on my author page, so maybe he’s not sure what to make of his mother. I just asked my husband to describe me and he said, “Intelligent, inquisitive, fun-loving, and introverted. You also have an amazing ability to ignore me when you’re writing.” Ha ha! True.

What project are you working on next?

Um… that’s something of a secret right now, kind of a, “If I tell you, I’ll have to kill you,” thing. I’ll just say I’ve always wanted to write a small town romance series.

Summary

Alex Gentry doesn’t scare easily. Working as an undercover FBI agent in the biker bar he and his brothers co-own, he hangs with deadly criminals in order to gather information. Danger is just part of the family business. But one thing has him terrified: his attraction to Madison Parker.

Madison is the cousin of Ramon Alonzo, son and second in command to a notorious drug lord Alex is trying to bust. Alex has befriended Ramon as part of his cover, and Madison has unknowingly become his informant. Falling for her could risk this case—and both their lives.

All Madison wants is to get her new bookstore business off the ground, and for her creepy cousin Ramon—to whom she’s unfortunately indebted—to leave her alone. If she could only stop fantasizing about his mysterious new friend, Alex…

As the Alonzo cartel investigation heats up, so does their relationship. But will the secrets they’re keeping tear them apart—or get them both killed?
